#ICantBreathe

What does “I Can’t Breathe” really mean?

Last week, sports players from amateur to professional, male and female, were wearing these black shirts that read “I Can’t Breathe” on them. The shirts refer to an incident that happened in New York where an unarmed man was accidentally killed by a police officer. The reason why people are protesting is because the police officer wasn’t punished for making a mistake. So to show empathy and sympathy for the family of the man that was killed, some players wore these shirts.

There are a couple of people in this country who didn’t like it because they felt that sports players should stick to playing sports and not forcing our opinions on subjects outside of sports.

This is not a good way to think.

I’m proud of all the athletes that chose to use their fame to speak out against what they think is unfair. From Derrick Rose, LeBron James, the St. Louis Rams players, Notre Dame’s women’s team, etc., all these players chose to stand united for a cause that they believed in.

As a Christian athlete, what are the things that you take a stand for? Do you use your talents as a sports player to help spread God’s love? Remember, the most powerful way to witness is through your actions. Just like the athletes didn’t have to say anything, sometimes we don’t need to say anything either. All it takes is our actions and I guarantee people will do the talking for you.
