Deuteronomy 31:6 – Keep running

Sports Zone readers! I’ve got some exciting news for you.
In 2010, I was given the opportunity to write about sports, my faith, and how the two always work together. Eight years later and we’re still going strong and I love it! And now it’s time for me to introduce you to Davis Wallace.
He has a new blog called Against the Grain. His writing is about sports too, but he specifically looks for athletes that chose to be different to make a difference. Be sure to check back in every month to see the amazing, real-life stories he’s found.
So without further ado, I give you; Against the Grain:
Meet Katie Cooke she is a competitive runner. Due to an aggressive form of epilepsy, she experiences up to 14 seizures a day. Despite her condition, Katie hasn’t let anything stand in the way of her love for running. With the help of her neurologist, who doubles as her running partner, Katie has never steered off course. With each seizure, she is able to bounce back and keep on going.
Initially, competitive running wasn’t int he cards for Katie. It was a convulsion during a race that led her to Dr.Colin Doherty; who serves as her running partner. He has kept her on track ever since. If anything each seizure gives her more motivation to keep going.

Struggles come in all shapes and sizes – fears, addictions, persecution, and worries can all seem to take over our thoughts. God tells us that we will face trails, but that we should not lose hope! be encouraged, God has called you an overcome! In Deuteronomy 31:16 He promises that He will never leave or forsake us. When we feel like life is too hard, that’s when we should seek God in prayer.

My name is Davis Wallace I am a freelance writing from Silver Spring, MD. I graduated from Southern Adventist University with a degree in Mass Communications. While in school, I served as Sports Editors for two years. As a Christian and sports aficionado I enjoy writing about the connection between the two. I elected to go with Against the Grain because I will be writing stories that are contrary to the natural inclination of someone or something. In my free time I like to spend time with my wife and newborn son.
