Last time on winter’s war: Chesters failed attempts to locate Travis leads him to a horrific sight outside the classroom.
Ms. Jones on the other hand has some very important business to take care of.
Travis sat at Ms. Jones’ desk, silent. The principal stared into his eyes, speechless.
Only the clock spoke.
Occasionally her lips parted, but closed again. She didn’t know what to say, or how to say it; the thoughts were bottled up in her brain.
Finally the words spilled from her mouth.
“Travis, I – I thought I had it all figured out. I thought I knew… who you were.” A new Travis glared from those once caring eyes, but he was still silent. Ms. Jones continued. “I thought I knew – your character; your potential; your beliefs. I thought I could trust you to be the peacemaker in all of this!” Travis’ clenched fist abruptly hit the table. A infernal fire of rage exploded within him.
Spitting flaming words from his mouth, he roared: “ I HATE PEACE!” The willful lad erupted from his chair, holding his wild head. He breathed heavily. His heart pounded with fury. His eyes rolled with annoyance. His nostrils flared. His teeth ground with resentment. The monster within him rose from the pit of his soul.
Heartbroken, Ms. Jones pronounced the words that would later torture Travis, echoing in his memories for years to come. With a disappointed tone in her voice and an anguished look on her face, she softly uttered: “I thought you were a Christian.”
