When I’m about to enter the Snug, something rams into me, and I go flying. My tray, cereal and glass of milk gone flying in clatter on the floor.
I groan and open my eyes and see Sarah 15-year-old sister peering down at me.
“I’m so sorry are you okay?” She asks trying to heft a box to her other arm. She succeeds that quickly and offers her free hand to help me up.
“I think so.” I answer “What’s in the box?”
“Wait a second, I thought you were asleep.” She says.
“I thought you were asleep.” I replied hotly.
Just then Arthur, Lowella, and the Twins come crashing down the stairs. “What’s the big noise?” They shout. They look at the shattered glass and tray taking in the mess.
“Who was the clumsy one this time?” Arthur asks.
“No one” Sarah answers. “We crashed into each other.”
“And guess what?” My 9-year-old Twin siblings Catherine and Max say at the same time.
“What?” Lowella and Arthur exclaim.
“It’s your turn to mop and sweep!” The twins say, grinning.
Lowella and Arthur groan.
Arthur looks Me and Sarah in the eye and says, “Did you guys have to make a mess on our day?”
Me and Sarah burst into laugher.
“What’s happening? Catherine asks finally looking around.
“Yeah, what is happening?” Lowella parroted.
“Well…” Me and Sarah say glancing at each other.
“Dad’s boss says he has to move in a week, not in a month.” Sarah answers. “So we’re packing up, she says slowly.”
“In a week!” they all exclaim.
“But the Goodbye Party is at the end of the month” Catherine and Max exclaim, gasping.
“We can’t leave the pet’s passport haven’t arrived yet” Arthur says, being tactical. He smiles smugly.
“Yeah… they’re arriving tomorrow.” I answer diminishing their hopes.
“Can Dad tell his boss that we all move in a month?” Lowella asks tearfully.
“If he does that.” Sarah says gently. “He’ll lose his job.”
My brother Mike comes down the stairs rubbing his eyes that is full with sleep. “What’s happening?” He asks, yawning.
“We’re leaving in a week, not a month” we all say at the same time.
“What?” Mike yells wide awake now.” But Dad said” he faltered.
“Dad’s boss moved to a week last night” Me and Sarah say at the exact same time.
We all look at each other and sigh.
Dad runs in and exclaims, “Guess what I got us. Guess what I got us?”
