Life at this new school. Book 1, the fruit of the spirit. Chapter 4., patience.

Another school day. Great.” Rebekah said as she went up to the bus. Inside of the bus was an exited Darius waiting for Rebekah to sit by him. Of course, Rebekah did. As she did, Darius couldn’t hide his excitement any longer. “There’s going to be a new kid in the same history class we go to!” Darius blurted out. “What?! That’s great!” Rebekah blurted out to. They both laughed. “I wonder if it’s a girl.” Rebekah said. “It is.” Darius said while nodding his head.

“Her family just moved from town.” Darius said. “Well Darius, it’s our job to help people make new friends on their first day.” Rebekah said as the bus screeched to a stop. “Let’s make sure she gets a friend!” Rebekah said as they entered into the school building.

——————————

“HISTORY TIME!” Rebekah said to Darius as they entered the classroom. When they entered through the door, they noticed that one of the desks had no chair. Hmmm. That’s weird. Rebekah thought as she sat in her chair. “Good afternoon class!” Mrs. Brooklyn, the history teacher, said to the class. “GOOD MORNING, MRS. BROOKLYN!” The class said out loud.

“Well, I would be proud to say that we have a new student in this class. Please welcome, Deborah!” Mrs. Brooklyn said to the class. As Deborah stepped into the classroom, Rebekah suddenly understood why one desk didn’t have a chair with it. Deborah had a wheelchair on her. “Hi everyone.” Deborah said. “The reason why I have a wheelchair is because I have DMD. (Duchenne muscular dystrophy) It made my leg mussels weak so that I couldn’t walk or jump. That’s why I have a wheelchair: It can help me move around and do daily activities. Thank you.”

All the kids clapped after she said her speech. History class eventually went and left after a hour. And as Deborah was leaving the doors, Rebekah asked her if she and her could go to the school library and read books together. Deborah said yes. And when school was done, they both went through the library doors.

“There you are!” Rebekah said to Deborah. “Thanks for inviting me to hang out with you!” Dorothy said. “No problem! If you don’t mind, I gave Darius an invitation too.” Rebekah said. “That’s no biggie. The more the merrier, right!” Dorothy said. They both laughed. Eventually, Darius did come over to hang out with the two girls. They decided to have a little private book club for after school times. They decided to read for their first book “The Call of The Wild.” As soon as they finished reading the first chapter, a bully showed up drinking A starry and eating Lays potato chips in the library.

“You….” Rebekah said. “Why, You better not bully us Steve. You know what happened with you and Darius with the graffiti.” “I wasn’t planning to.” Steve said. “Chickens. All of you are chickens.” Steve said. “Who’s he?” Dorothy said. “That’s Steve. He forced Darius into spraying graffiti outside of the school building.” Rebekah whispered into her ear. “Scary.” Dorothy said.

“Why, I’d like to give you a piece of my mind.” Rebekah said. “Oh, you wanna fight? Well you’ll get one.” Steve said.

“Will you guys please stop?!” Dorothy said. Tears started to swell in her eyes. “I just wanted to have new friends. Please have patience. Romans 12:12 says “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”” “Wow. I’m so sorry Steve. I don’t know what got into me.” Rebekah said. “That’s ok. Truce?” Steve said. “Truce.” Rebekah said as they shook hands. “Chicken. Ha ha.” Steve said.

“Young man. Why do you have snacks in a library?” The librarian said. “That’s a detention for you tomorrow, Steve.”

—————————

“Another day.” Rebekah said as she was on the sidewalk. Dorothy joined on the walk to school with her. Darius did too. “You know what?” Rebekah said. “I’m glad that we can walk to school so I can talk with All my friends.” “Your kind.” Dorothy said. “And smart too.” Darius said.  “Aww, thanks guys.” Rebekah said as they all walked to the school.
