A Christmas to Remember, Chapter 2

Elena walked into the schoolhouse and sat down by Chrissy.” I hope Sarah doesn’t get chosen for the lead part in the play,” whispered Chrissy, ” Everybody knows that she will ruin it for everyone. Besides, just because she is–”

“Chrissy, Elena,” interrupted Ms.Katy, the teacher, “you two don’t seem to be listening. I have already told the whole class to turn to page 21 in their spellers, but you two seem to have something more important to talk about. Do you mind telling me what it is?”

“We were just talking about the Christmas play,” responded Elena.

“Now, if this happens again, you will both sit in the corner. Understood?”

“Yes Ms. Katy,” came the reply from both.

The school schedule went like this. First, it was spelling and arithmetic. After that would be history and science. Then, there would be an announcement the teacher had and then school was out. Today’s announcement would be the one for the lead part in the play. Elena couldn’t wait to see who would be chosen.

Science was finally done, and now the time for the announcement had finally arrived. “Children, please settle down,” started Ms. Katy, ” I’ve been looking over everyone for these past few days, and although all of you have been quite well-behaved, I have chosen a girl to do the part. This girl is…………. Elena Conner! Congratulations Elena. I hope you want to do the part. But if you do not, I have chosen a second girl in case of any emergencies. Sarah Mallet will help in case of any emergencies that I hope will not come up. Congratulations to both of you!”

“Thank you, Ms. Katy,” said Elena, ” I would love to be the lead. Thank you so much!” “Here is your part Elena. I hope you practice it until it is perfect. We wouldn’t want our ‘star’ to be unprepared.” said Ms. Katy as she handed Elena the sheet.

“Did you see the look on Sarah’s face!?” asked Chrissy as she and Elena walked home from school. ” No, I was too excited to look around.” giggled Elena. “Well, I can tell you that she did not look happy. She looked like she was about to explode!” said Chrissy. “Well, she must be very unhappy to look like that,” responded Elena.

Elena said goodbye to Chrissy as they both took different ways to get home.

“Mother, Jeremy, guess who got chosen for the lead part in the Christmas play!?”

“Hmmmm,” teased Jeremy, “I bet the dog from Mrs. Bailey did. He’s got the loudest bark in town.”

“Oh Jeremy,” responded Elena, ” I was picked! I am so excited! Where is Mother? I want to tell her.”

“She is out back washing the clothes. Great job Elena,” responded Jeremy. Elena ran as fast as she could to go and tell her mother. She was so excited. But another problem came as always.

Join me next time to see what the problem is!
