Isaiah 41:10 – Mental Health

When DeMar DeRozan and Kevin Love let the world know about their mental health struggles earlier this year, they sparked a national conversation.

The two All-Stars recently revealed their struggles with mental health and since teamed up for a PSA that has been running all month. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the PSA the NBA released encourages people to ask for help. There’s a website where NBA fans can learn more about mental health and access a selection of resources.

During the regular season, DeMar shared with The Toronto Star about his depression. Kevin wrote about anxiety and panic attacks in The Players Tribune. Just like they both stated, everybody is going through something.

Mental health is far more prevalent than many realize. With one in four adults struggling with mental health each year, there’s no doubt that there are people in our churches who desperately need love and support.

People regularly approach the church because they need help in dealing with the symptoms of mental health—their own or someone else’s. Isaiah 41:10 reads “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

We need to be ready to respond to people who need us, and this response starts with considering mental health from a Christian point of view. What steps can you take to help?
