Stories From SWAU

First of all I want to give a BIG congratulations to HVA for winning both the small school boys and girls championship! Well done guys!

Well it was a wild week down in Texas! I would give you a play-by-play but that sounds super boring! I just want to say that the tournament that Southwestern puts on is something that everyone should experience. It’s super fun. Over 50 men’s and women’s teams from Seventh-day Adventist schools across America participated this year.

As you guys may or may not know, I’m an assistant coach over at Spencerville Academy. Our Varsity boys didn’t do that well this year, but we had a lot of fun and we learned a lot of valuable lessons. Congrats to Forest Lake Academy for winning the big school boys bracket.

Our Lady Hornets had a really squad again this year. Last year we came in second place and so this year, they were even more focused on winning. We had a really good tournament this year lead by our front court guards Amber Michelle Kelchner and JoJo Brown. They made it all the way back to the championship game and they wanted ME to do the roster announcements. I was super nervous about that because the gym is HUMONGOUS! Here’s a pic of it:

Yeah…now imagine about 1,000 people packed into that gym and me on the stage. The good thing is that I had the right voice, but the bad thing is that I forgot Katelyn Juneau’s name AND the sound system kept messing up on me so nobody really heard me.

FAIL!

But that would be the least of our troubles that night. Spring Valley’s Andrea Hoover looked like LeBron James in high school out there. We tried to shut her down but she was just too much to handle. She ended up with 49 points and 13 rebounds! The final score was SVA 57 – SAA 44.  So congrats to Spring Valley Academy for winning the big school girl’s championship! And I’m SUPER proud of our Lady Hornets even though we came in second again. We’ll get ’em next year girls! A special shout-out goes to our seniors Dani Anderson, Kaitlyn Calhoun, and Kayla Dehm. And on our boys side; Adam Jencks, Cedric Schaebe, and Ryan Johnson. I’m gonna miss you all! 🙂

Here are some other pics from the weekend:

See you guys next year!
