Hey Readers!
This week I’ll be going to a basketball tournament at Southwestern Adventist University. I’m traveling with Spencerville Adventist Academy, so if you see me, come say hi! I’ll be taking lots of pictures so I can share them with you when I get back on Sunday afternoon.
But what kind of writer would I be if I left you without an article?
At a tournament, there are bound to be super cool moments when there will be overtime games, buzzer-beaters, and great performances all around! Here’s the story of Mike James of Lamar University. This guy was a little-known bench player on his basketball team until he subbed in one night.
Mike exploded for 52 points in a 114-62 win! You can read more about it by clicking here.
“Breaking a record is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so that’s what I’m going to remember,” Mike said. “I think coming off the bench is what my team needs me to do,” James said. “We have two veteran guards that start in Anthony Miles and Kendrick Harris. They start off the game well. I just watch what we do when I’m sitting on the bench and when I come in, I try to do what we were missing.”
This is just a great example of how you can play your part and still make a difference. There’s a Sports Zone article in Guide magazine coming out soon that talks about finding our part on a team and playing it well. God wants us to be a part of His team that He calls the Body. The Body represents our church and we all have our place in it, but it’s up to us to find it. I hope that one day all of you find your parts!
Wish me luck at the tournament!
