The Trials – Chapter 2 – Anxiety

The car comes to a stop.

“We’re here!” Mrs. Miller said.

“Finally!” Caleb jested.

“Caleb..” Riley muttered.

“The kids are inside. They’re excited to meet you two.” Mr. Miller said warmly.

They entered the house and saw two little kids watching TV  on the couch and two older kids making dinner in the kitchen.

“We’re home!” Mr. Miller yelled.

The youngest hopped up from the couch and raced to the door, and clutched his leg.

“DADDY! DADDY! Where were you?!” He asked.

“Heyyy, buddy! How ya doin’?”

Mr. Miller picks him up and walks over to the kitchen.

A girl was mixing cake batter, and a boy was chopping up veggies.

“Hey, Dad! Hey mom! I’m making the cake, and Gabe’s making the salad for dinner,” she said.

“Ok, I’ll get our new guests settled in.”

“I’ll help you two in the kitchen.” Mrs. Miller said as she grabbed a knife and a potato.

Caleb and Riley walked up the stairs to their bedrooms with Mr. Miller leading them.

“These are your rooms. We’re going to have dinner soon, so if you want, you can both wash up and come down.”

“Thanks,” Riley whispered.

Caleb just rolled his eyes.

Mr. Miller went back downstairs.

“How long do you think it’ll be before we have to go back?” Caleb said.

“I’ll give them 5 months,” Riley said starkly.

“Heh.. So.. I’m gonna go check my room. Wanna come?”

“No. I think.. I think I’ll stay here.”

“K.”
