The Trials – Chapter 1 – Distrust

Caleb and Riley entered the car with their new foster family. The foster family, the Millers, seemed to be a kind and loving family. Mr. & Mrs. Miller got in the car, and they started driving home.

“Hope you kids are okay!” Mrs. Miller said.

“Yeah, totally fine!” Caleb sneered.

“Caleb, tone it, please,”Riley muttered to Caleb. “It’s bad enough the people at the foster care hate us.”

Mr. Miller says, “The family will enjoy having you over. Everyone’s excited for your arrival.”

Riley looks out the car window as the trees, cars, and road blur by. It felt like she could forget what happened before…

“You okay?”

Riley jumps back, “Huh?”

“You seemed upset,” Caleb said.

“YEAH! Yeah! I’m great!” Riley hurriedly said, trying to evade the question.
