Chapter 2: The Letter
My heart pounded so hard I thought it might burst as I stared at the envelope with my name on it. The other letters lay still—dusty, forgotten—but this one floated just above the rest, as if it had been waiting for me.
I hesitated. Fear whispered for me to drop it, to run away, to pretend none of this was real. But deep inside, I felt something stronger than fear—something like a quiet pull, a gentle nudge from God Himself.
Slowly, trembling, I reached out and took the letter. The paper was smooth and almost warm—like it had just been written moments ago.
I unfolded it with shaking hands.
The handwriting was neat, careful, unfamiliar.
“You found the place few ever do. But finding is only the beginning. What you seek will not be easy. Trust your heart, and keep moving.”
No signature. No name. Just words that felt heavy with meaning.
A cold shiver ran down my spine, but my mind raced back to a truth I’d learned long ago: sometimes God doesn’t give us clear signs or easy answers. Sometimes He asks us to step forward anyway, trusting Him to guide our way.
Who left this letter? Why here, in this forgotten place?
I pressed the letter close to my chest, feeling a strange peace settle over me despite the chill.
The bell above was silent now. The dusty letters lay still. But the air felt charged—as if God’s presence lingered, watching, waiting.
I slid the letter into my backpack and began my slow climb down the spiraled stairs. Each creaking step echoed like a heartbeat in the empty tower. Outside, the sun was setting, streaking the sky with bruised purples and fiery oranges—reminders of God’s power and beauty even in the darkest moments.
I paused at the chapel door, glancing back at the leaning steeple silhouetted against the fading light. It stood quiet, steadfast, like a reminder that some things—faith, hope, God’s promises—never lean or fall.
A sudden breeze whispered past me, soft and cool, carrying with it a sound almost like a voice.
“Come back…”
My skin prickled, and I held my breath.
Was it just the wind? Or something more?
I thought of the verse Pastor Jay shared last week: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”
Maybe this was one of those moments—when God asks you to trust Him even if the way isn’t clear.
I didn’t want to go back. I wanted to ride away fast, far from this place.
But deep down, I knew the journey wasn’t over.
That night, I lay awake, the letter’s words echoing in my mind.
What was I searching for? What was God asking me to find?
The answers felt close, like a quiet voice calling from the shadows.
Because sometimes faith means stepping into the unknown, trusting God to be your light when all you see is darkness.
And sometimes, the places that feel most broken hold the greatest hope.
To be continued…
