Chapter Two: The Riddle of the Guardian
Zach’s heart raced as he faced the guardian of the treasure, who stood confidently with his arms crossed. The older boy’s eyes sparkled with mischief, and Zach knew they were in for a challenge.
“Alright, little adventurers,” the guardian said with a smirk. “Here’s your riddle:
I have keys but open no locks,
I have space but no room,
You can enter, but you can’t go outside.
What am I?”
Zach furrowed his brow, trying to think. He glanced at Ben, who was already whispering ideas to Josh and Macy.
“Come on, Zach! You can do this!” Ben encouraged, his eyes wide with anticipation.
Zach took a deep breath. This was the moment to lead. “Let’s break it down,” he said, his voice steady. “What has keys but doesn’t unlock anything?”
Macy jumped up, her little hands waving excitedly. “A piano! Pianos have keys!”
“Good thinking, Macy!” Zach replied, feeling a spark of hope. “But it also says it has space but no room. What could that be?”
Josh scratched his head, deep in thought. “What about a computer? It has keys and space!”
Zach’s eyes lit up. “That’s it! A computer! You can enter a computer, but you can’t go outside of it!”
He turned to the guardian, confidence surging. “The answer is a computer!”
The guardian raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed. “Very clever, young adventurer. You’ve solved my riddle!”
With a wave of his hand, the guardian stepped aside, revealing a hidden entrance behind the tree. “The treasure awaits you. But remember, the journey is just as important as the treasure itself.”
Zach beamed at his siblings and Ben. “Let’s go!”
They hurried through the entrance, which led to a small clearing filled with colorful flowers and sparkling sunlight. In the center stood an old chest, adorned with intricate carvings of crosses and doves.
“Wow! Look at that!” Josh exclaimed, his eyes wide with wonder.
Zach approached the chest with cautious excitement. “This must be it! The legendary treasure!”
He knelt down and carefully opened the chest. Inside, they found not only candy but also a collection of handwritten notes and drawings from other kids who had gone on similar adventures.
“Look! These are messages of encouragement!” Macy squealed, picking up a note. “It says, ‘With God, all things are possible!’”
Ben grinned. “This is awesome! It’s like a treasure of friendship and inspiration!”
Zach felt a warmth in his heart. “This is more than just candy. It’s a reminder that God wants us to share love and joy with others.”
As they shared the candy and read the notes, laughter filled the clearing. They felt connected, not just to each other but to all the kids who had come before them, united by their faith.
Suddenly, the guardian appeared again, leaning against a tree with a smile. “You’ve discovered the true treasure. Remember, adventures are best when shared with friends and family, and guided by God’s love.”
Zach nodded, feeling grateful for this moment. “Thank you for guiding us!”
“Now, it’s time to head back before it gets dark,” the guardian said, glancing at the setting sun. “But don’t worry; more adventures await you.”
As they made their way back, Zach felt a renewed sense of purpose. They had faced a challenge, solved a riddle, and discovered a treasure that went beyond candy.
“Let’s make our own notes for the next adventurers!” Zach suggested.
“Yeah! And we can add drawings too!” Macy added, her creativity flowing.
With a plan in mind, they returned home, filled with excitement for the next adventure. As they walked hand in hand, Zach realized that the greatest treasure was the bond they shared, guided by faith and friendship.
To Be Continued…
As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, the promise of new adventures and the joy of family filled their hearts, reminding them of God’s love and the adventures yet to come.
