Good News!

“Whew! Glad that’s over!” My sister said as we walked out of the basement.

We live in Battle Creek, Michigan and a tornado had just gone through. No houses were damaged but the power was out pretty much everywhere. Trees were down all over town and Consumer Energy and tree companies were working night and day to get the town cleaned up and power back on.
I was stressed. Not because the power was out (I could live with that) but our Christian dance studio, In His Steps Dance Studio, was having a recital that Saturday and it was Friday morning right now!

“They’re probably going to cancel the recital,” my mom said, “because they need power for lighting and music.”

I was really excited for this dance recital because I was using my talent of dance to spread the gospel. This recital was called Good News and we were planning a lot of gospel-spreading dances. We had about 200 dancers from ages 3-18 and we were gonna have an audience of about 800-1,000 people!

“Satan obviously didn’t want this recital to happen.” I said to myself.

And I prayed that God would get the power back up. All day Friday we were in suspense with no news. I was still anxious but, after much deliberation, I decided to leave it in God’s hands.

Saturday morning, we got the news that, miraculously, the power was back up in the church! This was a big thing because power was out in over 200,000 homes statewide! So, the fact that Woodland Wesleyan Church was near the top of the list was a miracle. We didn’t have dress rehearsal Friday night because the power wasn’t back then but we did have Opening Number practice Saturday morning.

The recital went really good considering we hadn’t had a dress rehearsal and I think that we touched many lives. It was an even bigger blessing because we were spreading the Good News during disastrous times. God is good and he knows what he’s doing!

  1. Oh, my goodness, I was there at that recital dancing! Everyone was super thankful. It’s a really great story to remember that God can control the storm.
