Chapter 1: The Shepherd and the Whisper
In the hills of Bethlehem, young David tended his father’s flocks, the sunset casting golden light across the fields. His life seemed ordinary: caring for sheep, playing his harp, and dreaming of adventures beyond the quiet valley. Yet sometimes, in the stillness, he felt a presence that made the hairs on his neck stand on end—as if unseen eyes were watching him.
One evening, a caravan arrived at Jesse’s house. Among them was the prophet Samuel, a man whose eyes held secrets and a quiet intensity that made David uneasy. Samuel’s task was solemn: God had chosen a new king, one who would rise from among Jesse’s sons.
One by one, the older brothers passed before Samuel—strong, tall, confident. But God’s voice whispered to the prophet: “Do not look at appearances; I have chosen him in whom my spirit will dwell.”
David, the youngest, barely noticed until Samuel called his name. Trembling, he approached as the prophet anointed him with oil. A warmth spread through his chest, mingling fear with exhilaration. He was marked for greatness—but also for trials he could not yet imagine.
Even as David returned to the hills, the feeling of unseen eyes lingered. Shadows, he realized, followed him—sometimes protective, sometimes foreboding. And thus began the boy’s journey into a world where courage, faith, and mystery would be inseparable.
