A Day on Haiti’s Crystal Shore

The afternoon sun bathed the sand in a warm glow. The gentle crashing of the waves sent a salty spray onto the shore. The turquoise water was as clear as glass and teeming with beautiful and vibrant sea life. The beach in Labadee, Haiti, is a breathtaking display of God’s intricate creation.

The walk to the beach was calm and scenic. Clear, blue water stretched out perpetually in the distance. The constant chatter of tourists filled the humid air, as the sun washed the scene in a warm, gentle light. The long walkway from the cruise ship faded into cement, which melted at last into the warmth of golden sand. 

As soon as we arrived at the beach, I immediately waded into the warm, crystalline, turquoise water, letting the soothing waves embrace me. As I sank into the turquoise depths, tiny fish twirled around me, their colors shimmering like liquid jewels.

The voices of the tourists completely disap­peared as I submerged my head under the water. The complete silence entrenched me, and while it might have scared some, it provided a quick and quiet peace for me. When I came back up, I was almost sorry to hear the tourists’ laughter and joyful shrieks around me.

 Eventually, the time had come to leave the gorgeous beach. Before I departed, though, I turned around to admire the place one more time, to secure a photo of this place in my mind. The pale brown sand, pocketed with footprints of all sizes; the turquoise water, as clear as pure glass; the small fish with vibrant, shimmering scales of many different colors; these all imprint themselves into my mind.

A soft smile spreads across my face, knowing the beauty and magnificence of this place will forever be etched into my heart. Visiting the beach in Labadee, Haiti, reminded me of what an amazing Creator we serve.
