Just then Lowella and Sam burst into the barn breathless.

Sam said, “You won’t believe what we found!”

“Kittens!” Lowella shrieked.

“What do you mean kittens?” asks Jennifer, ” I thought the cats were boys!”

“Where are they?” asked Mike “I haven’t seen them.”

“They’re under the porch!” said Sam excitedly “Come on!” he said as he ran out of the barn.

We all ran behind him all the way to the porch.

Lowella was the first one to get there, “Look!” she said crouching down.

Sure enough there were 5 kittens curled up in a small hole under the porch.

“Ahhhh” screams Bianca.

I turn to see two cats biting her ankle savagely.

Jennifer is the first to react. She grabs one by the scruff of its neck and drags it away the cat protesting with meows, and howling.

Max picks the other one up for a sheer second before dropping the second cat, “Ouch!” he says looking at his scratched-up arms.

The cat just eyes him and starts licking its paw as if nothing had happened.

Jennifer set down the cat she was holding, and it make a dash for the porch, and the other cat followed.

“So much for being my favorite animals here!” mutters Max in contempt, looking down at his arms.

Sarah turns to Bianca, “Are you alright?” She asks.

“I think I’m fine, I don’t think it broke the skin.” Bianca rolling up her pants to reveal her ankle, “Yeah it didn’t.” She says after further inspection.

“And Max, are you ok?” Max says in a mocking tone, “Yeah I’m ok thanks for asking.” He says in a deeper sarcastic voice.

We all laugh.

Sarah grabs Max arms and turns them over, “You really need to wash these up.” She says in a serious tone.

“I will.” says Max.

“”What happened? I heard yelling.”

We all look up to see Dad sticking his head out the window, with a concerned look on his face.
