NEW! CHANGE BACKGROUND
That's Deep!
by Rachel Whitaker, Associate Editor

Hi, everyone!

This week James Cameron, a filmmaker, completed a record-breaking dive to the deepest part of the ocean: the Mariana Trench, about 200 miles from Guam. He was in a special submarine he had built that could withstand the pressure of being more than 35,000 feet below sea level. Wow, that's deep. That's almost 7 miles straight down! The smallest leak would have cause his submarine to instantly implode. Yikes.

The Mariana Trench is a super deep canyon that is 120 times larger than the Grand Canyon.  If you've ever been to the Grand Canyon, I'm sure you remember being amazed at how big it was. Now imagine the Grand Canyon 120 times bigger!  It took Mr. Cameron two hours to get there, and he stayed there to explore the area for three hours.

Here's a computer-generated drawing of the Mariana Trench.

It must be super exciting to get the opportunity to gaze on creatures and landscapes no human has ever seen. What amazes me the most is that for humans to get down there is it extremely dangerous, complicated, and expensive.  Nevertheless, God created creatures that can live at that depth and survive!  No special submarines required.  Wow, God is amazing.

Splat!
