TOPIC: Women Pastors?

Women Pastors? 1 year 1 month ago #60575

rapid FYI to yall, women are allowed to be pastors by the SDA church, the debate which occurred was ordination, and ordination for the uninformed means that the call to ministry in a persons life is recognized, ordination also allows pastors to marry and baptize people,

I definitely disagree with Women being Pastors.. :S Because the bible clearly says that Women CANNOT BE PASTORS and I think it's ok if Like a lady does like a presentation or like a quick sermon one week but the bible says that women can't be pastors.. Cuz I think ladies are a lot less humble than men and they speak their mind and there stubborn and they don't care what you say but there right lol :silly: (I'm a girl too so I understand lol) Men are a lot more humble and can be open to other opinions in the church.. ( just my opinion) Tell me what you guys think! :)

And where exactly in the Bible does it say that?

I was not previously aware of any Bible verse that explicitly stated that women can or can't be pastors. Could you tell me what verses you had in mind?

The debate that occurred at the 2015 GC Session wasn't even ordination. It was whether or not Divisions could decide to ordain women pastors. The delegates at the session voted down the proposal, which means that for women to be ordained, it must be decided by their respective unions.

Furthermore, the GC is now claiming that it has, in fact banned WO, is the highest authority of God on Earth, and has the right to take over unions that ordain women, despite previously stating that the ability to decide who gets ordination rests within unions.

God specifically laid out instructions in the bible for who should be the "priests and levis" and those were man.a woman is not the husband of one wife.It is very tru that everyone can work for God, but women have their own place.Mrs.White says that there are many things that women can do that most pastors cant get to do.I dont oppose a woman giving a presentation for divine worship, but a paid full-blown pastor is not at all biblical. :)

On the "pro" side, we have the following:
Women served as spiritual and political leaders in both the Old and New Testament. For many years, Miriam led the Israelites alongside Moses and Aaron (Micah 6:4, the entire book of Exodus). The prophet Deborah led Israel as a judge (politically) and as a spiritual leader, as she helped communicate the will of God to the Israelites. In addition, she led Israel into battle against the Canaanites (Judges 4-5). When Josiah found a Book of the Law in the Temple, the person most qualified to read and interpret in was the prophet Huldah, the wife of the keeper of the Temple wardrobe, who confirmed the accuracy of the scroll, prophesied Judah's destruction, and told Josiah he would not live to see Judah destroyed (2 Kings 22:14-20).

The New Testament lists several female disciples of Jesus, including Joanna, Salome, Mary, Martha, Susanna, and Mary the mother of Jesus. Some of these women, such as Joanna and Susanna, were wealthy and provided for Jesus (Luke 8:3), and others, like Mary and Martha, gave him a place to stay whenever he was near. These women were the first to learn of Jesus' resurrection, and were present with the apostles on Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended in the form of tongues of fire and allowed pilgrims to hear the gospel (Acts 1:14; 2:1). Acts 21:8-9 also mentions the four daughters of Philip the Evangelist, the deacon that baptized the Ethiopian, who prophesied. Acts also tells us that the home of Mary the mother of John Mark was a common meeting place for the Christians of Jerusalem, as it was where they were praying when Peter was arrested, and Peter knew to go there after God freed him from Herod's prison (Acts 12:12).

Alongside her husband Aquila, Priscilla taught the preacher Apollos "the way of God more accurately (Acts 18:26)." In 2 Timothy 1, Paul mentions that Timothy's faith is strong because he was taught by his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice.

In the Epistle to the Romans, Paul lists many notable Christian women who led their communities, including the deaconess (and possibly pastor) Phoebe, the apostle Junia, Tryphena, Tryphosa, Persis, Mary (unclear if she is Mary Magdalene or the mother of Jesus), and Priscilla, the wife of Aquila (Romans 16:1,3,6-7,12).

The issue so many have with 1 Timothy 2:12 being looked at as a worldwide reason banning women leadership in the church instead of advice to a specific group (the early Christians came from many cities and such had different cultures) is the fact that early Christian groups were led by women. Priscilla taught Apollos, Lois and Eunice taught Timothy, Phoebe oversaw the church at Cenchrea, women preached the Gospel to the Jews, and women used their homes as meeting places.

In addition, 1 Timothy 3 gives a list of qualifications for bishops and deacons, which in Greek, mean the same thing (overseer). 1 Timothy 3:11 states "In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything."
This implies that the criteria for male leadership also applies to female leadership.

With all of the instances of of female leadership in the early Church, it's difficult to make 1 Timothy 2:12 a standard for denying women leadership roles in the church, especially as Paul knew many women Christian leaders.
Speak up, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the needy and oppressed.
