Some churches (usually mega churches) put up screens behind the pulpit to display Bible references, hymns, motion pictures and slideshows. I heard about a guy who didn't like the idea of having a projector screen up in church because it reminded him of a movie theater. What's your opinion on them?

usually mega churches?? our church is tiny and has one. Personally, I don't see a problem with it, it just provides visual backup to what the speaker is saying... :)

I personally dont have a problem with them. My church is very big and it would be harder to pay attention to the pastor if you couldnt see his facial expressions and stuff like that. But at the same time I understand that some think that its sacrilegious to sing hymns off screens.

In our church we have the verses projected. I see no problem with it because for me personally, it insures that everyone sees the bible verses. Bible or not they have 'evidence' of what the speaker is saying.

OK, so what I think is that screens are fine, but if someone doesn't want them, or it reminds them of something sac-religious, that we should not judge them, they are just telling their opinion, and that we should respect that. You know the saying, "A pictures' worth a thousand words?" Some preachers use pictures to illustrate their point, and I find it helpful, when taking notes, to be able to see what I'm writing, ie. Bible verses. So, respect, understand, and never under-estimate the importance of people, even if their views differ from your own!

The only thing the screen does is put pictures on to support what the pastor is saying, it all fits in the puzzle. :cheer:

Our church has a screen, and I like it, but my only complaint is that since the screen always has the Bible verses, it kinda discourages me to bring my Bible to church at all.

You see. I understand that person might think it that way. But I don't see anything wrong with it. It helps you to praise and understand the sermon more. In that case, it's actually really good! :)

Nothing wrong with screens, how can they bad. Plus, it doesn't look like a theater? Theaters have the chairs like auto-matic and the screen is usually in the center and giant. :3 Not trying to be mean to that guy but I don't see why it looks like a theater.

im kinda sitting on the fence with this question

our church has two big screens in the front and i think its okay becuz sometimes i cant see the pastors face but on the other hand i think we are using the screen as an excuse of not using the bible. whenever the pastor says "turn in your bible to..." or if the choir leader says go to page xyz in your hymnal" then everyone looks up at the screen for the words in stead of in the book.

i wonder what would happen if they didnt put the words on the screen one day... that would be funny.

i think its all in the purpose of the projecter. if it for bible verses and songs thats fine. but if there a movie being played INSIDE THE SANCTUARY thats not right :side:

And its also the content of the movies. My church once showed Doug Batchelor's final events of bible prophecy in the sanctuary. I'm not sure if that's more of a documentary, but if it's something more Hollywood-like, its not acceptable.

My church is tiny too and we have one. We use it for video missions stories during sabbath school and sometimes for words to a song or bible verses. I don't have a problem with them as long as what is being shown on it is appropriate for the sancturay.

Yeah, it's fine to me. In my church, they show little missionary work of what people did of building a church and different SDA type things. :cheer:
