I've been seeing a lot of elderly people nowadays eating cough drops in church. However, I've also seen young people chewing bubble gum during the church service. In some churches deacons collect chewing gum at the door before you go in the sanctuary. Is eating cough drops in church really that bad, even if you don't have a sore throat? Can you chew gum in church if it's minty and you want to freshen your breath?

I think as long as you aren't chomping your gum or blowing bubbles, or doing anything else disturbing, that it's ok. I personally chew gum all the time, it helps me relax.

My dad is a pastor so he tells me not to eat gum in church.. I got in trouble once when I did that..:( If people want to freshen their breath why don't they just eat regular mints like three hours or icebreakers.. Cough drops are ok..

I think that cough drops are fine- don't rattle them in your teeth

I think that chewing gum is fine- don't blow bubbles or chew loudly

And mints are just fine

Cough drops are fine--they're to help. I was taught never to chew gum in church, no matter what. If you want to freshen your breath, chew gum in the car on the way and spit it out when you arrive or brush your teeth.

Yes. It's totally fine as long as you don't litter. But even then it's the littering NOT the chewing gum that's the problem. Hope that helps?

Since when is chewing gum a sin? Obviously, if your chewing loud or blowing bubbles then that's not acceptable, but if you have stank breath then by all means chew gum...unless you wanna kill ppl with it...
I think as long as its not making any noise then it's perfectly fine ~~

No one said chewing gum was a sin. But some people chomp their gum, and that isn't good in church.

I think cough drops are okay because you don't want to be disturbing everyone in the Sanctuary. But chewing gum is unacceptable to me. I used to chew gum in Church but then one of my friends had brought to my attention that it was disrespectful. I ignored it the first time before my friend had told me. But we are worshiping our Alpha and Omega, Beginning and the End, Messiah, Jehovah, Redeemer, and Friend. We are not there to satisfy our taste buds but to worship the being who died just for YOU! :woohoo:

Maybe you should eat those mints before entering the service. And for crying out loud! Throw that gum in the trash, don't put it under the seat. Or at least, that's what I discovered at my church (and when I discovered it, it was not nice). But I think that at church, gum should not be consumed as much. And these drops either.
So let me sing for the love
Let me love for the lost
Let me lose all I have
For what I found on the cross
Let me trust you with my life
Let me live to give you praise
Lord, let me praise you
For the grace by which I'm saved
Lord, let me sing

Personaly i dont chew gum bcs it gives me a bad stomach acke, but cough drops are fine i think, as long as you have a sore throat. I would rather not have them if they are not necessary.

Would you chew gum to freshen your breath if you were in a meeting with the queen of England? Yes or no that's your answer.BerryGirl13 wrote:
