America's National Public Radio has announced that National Institutes of Health is considering beginning scientific research to create chimera: an embryo that's part animal, part human. Scientists would take animal DNA and change the numbers slightly, then inject human stem cells into the embryo. Creepy? The problem is that if this works, and if the cells reach the brain, it could cause pigs and cattle to have partial or full human consciousness. Also, it's feared the chimera could breed and produce more human embryos or fetuses inside animals or hybrid creatures. The NIH has promised to guard against this happening but...

Looking at it from a positive point of view, the NIH claims it would be a benefit. Many people die every year because there are not enough organs (hearts, livers, pancreases, kidneys...). If animals are able to produce partially or fully developed human organs, there would be more "donors." Also, doctors and scientists could create animal models of human diseases and possibly find cures. There is now a special government committee that will review this idea.
"That committee would, for example, consider experiments designed to create animals with human brain cells or human brain tissue. Scientists might want to create them to study neurological conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases."

The public has 30 days to comment on this issue but research could start as early as 2017. What do you think?

I find that a little frightening. Things could really easily go wrong there... It's also a little unnerving how much power scientists have these days. But then again, it's really great that there will be more organ donors and it would be awesome to have a cure for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases

Well, this idea i extremely radical, and I think that they will have very little success in creating these "chimeras".
So let me sing for the love
Let me love for the lost
Let me lose all I have
For what I found on the cross
Let me trust you with my life
Let me live to give you praise
Lord, let me praise you
For the grace by which I'm saved
Lord, let me sing

I don't know what to think. It just seems really farfetched that they could successfully create a sentient human-animal hybrid, but you never know with science.

I will say this: even though it has little to do with robotics, a hybrid with a full consciousness would probably be the closest thing there will ever be to sentient Artificial Intelligence.
All rules have exceptions, including this one.

well, its a stupid idea that is highly unlikely to succeed, almost every time something like this has been attempted the best that could be hoped for was an organism that would live a short, disease filled life with a few genetic mutations, given there were some successes in livestock cloning, but to combine an animal and a human is an entirely different story, as far as organ donation, i would have to say i'm much more in favor of something like 3d printing them than this lunacy.

I think that this wouldn't be a good idea. Think about it. An animal with a partial human organ? A human with a partial animal organ? This just sounds creepy. I don't think this will be successful.

If you read the Spirit of Prophecy, you will know that Satan knows the sciences, and will use a lot of things defiled to use against the children of God.
Do not be afraid, for this is signs of the times, and that God is coming soon!

It sounds interesting, but I don't know enough about chimeras to talk about how good or bad they are. I need to do some research on this topic.
