Should Christians read books and poems by Edgar Allan Poe? I personally think it's fine, but I know some people who disagree with me. What are your thoughts?
... Even if it gets me convicted
I’ll still be on my knees with my hands lifted ...
... If saying I believe is out of line
If I’m judged cause I’m gonna give my life
To show the world the love that fills me
Then I want to be Guilty ...

I personally love Edgar Allan Poe and his work. I've never heard of people/christians who would dislike his writing until now? I guess because his work is quite dark sometimes, they would think that. However, I feel that his writings are able to give more insight into life itself and are all worth reading. So yeah that's just my two cents. ^-^

I don't see what's wrong with it. I've never read any of his books, just the raven, but it seems to be fine

I have read of few of his poems and I honestly thought they were a bit dark and slkkmy. That might have just been the poems I read. But one actually did have a good lesson behind it so I really think it's your personal decision. If you can choose specific works of his and get lessons out them, then I say go for it. You may learn a thing or two.

Well lets see. According to wikipedia, Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, editor, and literary critic. Poe is best known for his poetry and short stories, particularly his tales of mystery and the macabre.

What does macabre mean?

Macabre- disturbing and horrifying because of involvement with or depiction of death and injury.

Wonderful! Come Christians! Let us all run and read as many Poe poems as we can!!!

Lol, I'm totally kidding. But seriously, lets just remember to not set any wicked thing before our eyes (Psalm 101:3) :)
